Once unique traits are identified, the next step is to fractionate the thousands of proteins that may be present in a given tissue, cell or organelle. The ProteomeLab™ PF 2D Protein Fractionation System meets the challenge of separating and detecting proteins with an automated, two-dimensional fractionation process (in liquid phase) that resolves proteins by isoelectric point in the first dimension and by hydrophobicity in the second dimension. Beckman Coulter’s centrifugation technologies are also used in several methods for protein fractionation, such as pelleting precipitated fractions, and for separations, such as the recovery of ribosomes and lipoproteins.
